Modern Educators – Who Are They?
Along our journey we have had the privilege of meeting many educators, all over the world, that are demonstrating by example what a creative, caring teacher can do. Every object they find they use to bring life and engagement to the classroom, from common household objects to innovative software.
They know that the majority of students have a hard time paying attention. Therefore they easily get bored and stop learning unless they are challenged. So they try and keep it fresh using new tools, activities, and creative ideas to keep the students engaged and interested.
How Do They Do this?
Which tools are appropriate? Any tool can find its place in the classroom. We have seen a teacher create a whole intricate and interesting lesson using a brick as a prop. However, some tools have a longer shelf life. Educators use them repeatedly as a trustworthy companion, a supplement to the curriculum. Nowadays, more and more teachers are adopting a new, innovative tool, Augmented Reality (AR). It allows students to interact with knowledge through their senses: touch (manipulation of 3D objects in real space), sight (e.g. visualizing simple or complex 3D objects), and sound.
Multi-sensory learning enables students to think in multiple dimensions. Interaction and involvement with the subjects students are learning will naturally help them grasp them, increasing academic achievement. A true form of digital education!
